Dr Smith has worked as a research scientist investigating novel marine extracts at the New Zealand Institute for Crop and Food Research, has studied as a post-doctoral researcher at the Cawthron Institute, New Zealand, and has worked in collaboration with the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (National Center for Scientific Research) in Roscoff, France. She has published several research papers in peer-reviewed journals, has written numerous IP-protected/confidential reports, and has presented at several international conferences. She has served as a reviewer for several academic journals, including Functional Plant Biology and Enzyme and Microbial Technology. Dr Smith’s areas of professional expertise for editing are biochemistry and biology, especially of plants, phycology (marine plants), fisheries science, marine biology, and food technology. She also has extensive knowledge of data analysis and collection (including TWINSPAN classification and ordination). Currently working full time as a science editor, Dr Smith joined Edanz Group in 2007.
