2019 - PhD Biomedical Sciences, Rutgers University

2013 - MS Biomedical Forensic Sciences, Boston College

2011 - BS Biochemistry, Boston College

    Academic Background

Dr Iacona is a molecular biologist who has focused on nucleic acid biology for more than 9 years. His doctoral and post-doctoral research concerned non-coding RNA-mediated regulation of inflammatory genes in lung and colorectal cancers, and he investigated how certain microRNAs and long non-coding RNAs alter the overall gene expression landscape and behavior of cancer cells. Dr Iacona also received a Master’s degree in biomedical forensic sciences, focusing on DNA analysis and forensic biology. He is an expert in polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and his Master’s research aimed to develop a novel PCR-based technique for the recursive analysis of extremely low-template DNA samples. Dr Iacona is knowledgeable in molecular biology, genetics, cancer biology, signaling pathways, biochemistry, and various forensic sciences.

    Publishing History

Dr Iacona has been an author on numerous papers in high-ranking biomedical journals, including Oncotarget, RNA Biology, and Scientific Reports. He has presented his research at six national (American) conferences and two international conferences, as well at many local symposia. Dr Iacona was the recipient of two grants and was a New Jersey Commission on Cancer Research Pre-Doctoral Scholar.

    Editing and Reviewing Experience

Dr Iacona has assisted senior faculty members at Rutgers University with the editing and reviewing of many research grants and manuscripts. He has also edited manuscripts submitted by colleagues. Dr Iacona joined Edanz Group as an editor in 2020.

    Writing Experience

Dr Iacona has taken several scientific writing courses, including an online course in 2014 from Stanford University, which he passed with distinction. He has been the first author on several primary research articles, as well as an in-depth scientific review article. Dr Iacona has also written numerous grant proposals in cancer biology, molecular biology, and biomedical forensic sciences.
