    Academic Background

Ms Mason is a PhD student in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Toronto. Her research is focused on the paleontology and paleoenvironments (including geobiology, geochemistry, and paleoecology) of the Ediacaran and Cambrian periods. Her areas of expertise also include the Ediacaran Extinction, carbonate fossil reefs across the Precambrian–Cambrian boundary, and the transition from microbially dominated reef formation to the skeletonized metazoan reefs of the Phanerozoic Eon. At Queen’s University, Ms Mason studied the preservation, taxonomy, and deep-marine siliciclastic paleoenvironments of some of the world’s oldest known, complex, macroscopic organisms at Mistaken Point, NL, where she described and named two new taxa. Ms Mason has also been trained in sediment grain size analysis and Cenozoic nannofossil biostratigraphy.

    Publishing History

Ms Mason has published four papers in journals including the Canadian Journal of Earth Sciences and the Journal of Paleontology.

    Editing Experience

Ms Mason has a year of experience as an academic editor and 8 years of experience teaching undergraduate geology and paleontology. She joined Edanz Group as an editor in 2017 and earned her Editor in the Life Sciences (ELS) certificate in 2021.
