    Dr Dawes’ PhD research focused on neuroprotective drugs and their effects on retinal ischemia. Before undertaking her PhD, she spent 15 years as a senior research assistant at the National Institute for Medical Research, London, studying neuronal plasticity in the amphibian visual system. Dr Dawes first began research at St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School, London, studying the effects of dietary antioxidants on lipid peroxide formation in animal tissue after whole body irradiation. She has authored 15 peer-reviewed papers and has given presentations at national and international scientific meetings. Dr Dawes’ experience covers techniques in radiation biology, biochemistry, anatomy, histology, neurophysiology and neuropharmacology. Concurrent with her research, for 38 years she has been an assistant lecturer at the Open University, UK, teaching neurobiology, psychology and foundation sciences. A member of the British Neuroscience Association, Dr Dawes joined Edanz Group as an editor in 2010.
