2000 - PhD Materials Engineering, Monash University
1995 - MSc Chemistry, University of Melbourne
1991 - BSc (Hons) Materials Science, Monash University
Dr Nairn has extensive experience as a teacher and researcher in Materials Science. She teaches scientific writing to international PhD students, and has taught corrosion, nanomaterials, ceramics, research methods, and materials selection over the last ten years. Her research interest is in how motion of atoms and molecules affects materials properties. The materials she has studied include electrolytes for batteries, foods, biological rubbers, concrete, and light alloys.
Dr Nairn has co-authored over 30 peer-reviewed papers in journals including Journal of the American Chemical Society, Angewandte Chemie, Biomaterials, and Nature Communications.
Editing and Reviewing Experience
Dr Nairn has edited many manuscripts and proofread many theses for her colleagues. She has been a reviewer for Solid State Ionics, Electrochimica Acta, Polymer International, and Corrosion Science. Dr Nairn edited for Edanz Group from 2010 to 2015, before rejoining the team in 2020.
Dr Nairn has helped her colleagues write successful research grant applications, particularly for the Australian Research Council Discovery and DECRA schemes.
