On 17 March 2017, Dr Andrew Jackson (Senior Editor) and Ms Ayli Chong (Editor and Project Coordinator) from Edanz Group conducted a one-day training session for PhD students and early-career researchers in English presentation skills.

The first half of the day was spent giving a seminar to 60 researchers in how to prepare slides and posters for international academic conferences. Practical tips and lists of useful phrases were also given, along with demonstrations in making speeches and live verbal presentations.

After lunch, 14 researchers in engineering, physics, and materials science were given the opportunity to make slide presentations to the rest of the class, and their live performance was appraised by the Edanz instructors. The participants had already had their slides appraised by the Edanz instructors the week before.

All participants said they found the educational event to be satisfactory or very satisfactory, and they would recommend it to a colleague. Some attendees noted their confidence and language levels had been raised, and they now felt ready to attend more international conferences in their discipline.

The organizers thanked Edanz, saying that they were pleased with the event and hoped to make it an annual one.
