Shinshu University, Japan, has agreed to a collaboration in which Edanz Group will deliver graduate career development workshops for the next three years. And on 27 June 2015, Dr Trevor Lane and Ms Ayli Chong led the first workshop of the series for 20 international students of the Advanced Leading Graduate Program at Shinshu University.

This first interactive workshop, on preparing poster and slide presentations, aimed to train the participants in confidently and professionally communicating their research work at international conferences. Through small-group activities and class discussions, participants also gained experience in problem-solving and public speaking using academic English.

Both the organizers and students were appreciative of the one-day hands-on workshop and said they looked forward to the next one, noting that the training provided by Edanz fills a gap in the university graduate curriculum. The report write-up from the Advanced Leading Graduate Program at Shinshu University is available here.

The second workshop, to be held in October 2015, will allow the students to put their new skills and knowledge into practice during a day of class presentations. Future career-building workshops, designed by Dr Trevor Lane (Education Director and Senior Publishing Consultant at Edanz Group), will cover efficiently reading research articles, manuscript writing, journal submission and peer review, debating, job interviews, and communicating science to the public.

Edanz Group provides tools, resources, and services for researchers and research institutions to publish in international indexed journals and communicate their research to the world. In addition to publication support, editing, and news writing, Edanz offers a range of educational services from trained native-speaking instructors to help all levels of researchers throughout their careers.
